Launching Valley Skin Checks: A Bold Vision Brought to Life in Just Two Months

When Sinead learned her employer was closing its doors, she decided to build something new and truly her own! With only two months to get an entire business ready for launch, she came to Tailwind with a clear objective and a huge leap of faith. We couldn’t wait to get started.

Brand Strategy & Concept Development


We began with our full branding process, establishing the brand criteria and conducting market research to understand the landscape of skin cancer detection services in Wellington and New Zealand. One of Sinead’s early requests was to incorporate a valley into the visual identity—something grounded, local, and recognisable.

The final concept revolves around a simple but powerful idea:

The logo uses two circles and softly layered waves of colour. The inner circle references a dermatoscope—zooming in, analysing, and focusing on skin health. At the centre sits a medical plus to reinforce clinical expertise, reassurance, and care.

We selected vibrant but subtly pastel tones designed to appeal to the older demographic who make up much of the clinic’s audience. The blues and greens take their cues from the valley landscape while keeping the palette calm, professional, and trustworthy.

Visual Style & Typography

The visual treatment is clean and sharp but softened with gentle curves and slightly irregular organic linework. This was deliberate—skin checks can feel intimidating, and the identity needed to feel human, warm, and non-threatening.

The typography extends this feeling: a contemporary geometric sans serif with subtle feminine curves and distinctive connections that pair beautifully with the icon’s flowing shapes.

 

Bringing the Brand to Life

With the brand approved, we shifted into rollout mode—expanding the visual identity and building the digital and physical touchpoints Sinead needed to open the doors.

The new website is clear, modern, and designed for the demographic it serves.

  • Large, accessible typography and high-contrast sections for improved readability.

  • A calm, clinical aesthetic that builds trust while still feeling warm and approachable.

Photography and Collateral

Because the clinic hadn’t yet opened, we shot and edited the initial team photography right here at Tailwind. These images helped shape the friendly, reassuring tone of the brand across the website and marketing.

We also produced:

  • A Google Business Profile setup

  • Advertising posters

 

Signage & Clinic Experience

The most time-critical component was signage throughout the new Silverstream clinic. Working closely with the team at Graphic Print & Sign, we rolled out a complete suite of internal and external signage under a very tight deadline. They were fantastic collaborators and delivered exceptional work, as always.

In just a few short weeks of opening, Valley Skin Checks is already off to a flying start. Sinead’s determination, paired with a strong, cohesive brand and a polished launch, set the clinic up for immediate success.
