New Business Launch and Branding for Tide Tribe

Last year, our team was offered the opportunity to help a long-time client’s passion project come to life: Tide Tribe boat tours. This idea sprouted from our client’s desire to share their passion for surfing and travelling throughout the north-western side of the Fijian archipelago.

We helped launch Tide Tribe in Fiji with a new brand identity, website, business cards, and more.

We were brought onto the project early on, before a charter was even purchased and without a company name. This enabled us to consult with our client to develop a strategic positioning and help them stand out in an already competitive market.

We carried out comprehensive market research to scope out local boat tour services, their strengths and weaknesses, and what opportunities we could create for Tide Tribe. While surfing was a catalyst for this project, a wide range of family-friendly excursions and custom adventures are available.

Tide Tribe’s brochure showcases some of the many hotspots to visit off the coast of Nadi.

We chose to avoid the familiar graphics associated with ‘tropical Island tourism’ – instead we aimed to create something lively, genuine, and a little rugged.

As a part of our visual research we looked at consumer-generated content such as vlogs to capture the textures and tones that give Fiji its unique feel. From the thatched roofs, timber, and bamboo in bure (traditional dwellings) to sandy toes, rusted dinghies, and bowls of kokoda, we were led to a palette of charcoal, cream, and rusty orange. Another big inspiration was 2010s surf apparel – you may find echoes of this in the logo lettering.

Our client loves turtles and is involved in coral protection in the Mamanuca Islands area, so we created a modular pattern featuring several types of coral, seaweed and turtles. Our client was excited to have this pattern applied to the boat graphics.

As part of Tide Tribe’s visual language, we also incorporated an overhead photography style to showcase the ‘ingredients for a perfect holiday.’ You can see examples on the website mockup (above) or in the partnership proposal example (below).
